PPL(A) (Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) is the standard private pilot licence under EASA rules. It entitles you to fly non-commercially on single-engine piston (SEP) aeroplanes with MTOW up to 5700 kg. You may carry passengers when conditions are met. PPL(A) is recognised internationally and is the base for further ratings (night, IR, CPL).
Theoretical training – approx. 100 h (navigation, law, meteorology, instruments, performance, planning, etc.); theoretical exam in 9 subjects.
Practical training – minimum 45 h flight time (often 50–55 h in practice), including 10 h solo, navigation flights, cross-country min. 150 NM with landings at other airfields.
Practical exam – with CAA examiner (skill test).
After passing the exam and submitting documents, the CAA issues the licence with SEP(L) rating.
Approximate total cost (theory + practice + exams, medical): approx. PLN 34,000–43,000 (depending on school, aircraft type and hours). Prices as of March 2026; final amount depends on VAT, extra hours and exam fees.
